Volunteer Guide or Museum Host (m/f/x)
Can you talk with passion about the 1953 flood disaster? Then we – and our visitors – would love to welcome you to the museum!
What can you do for us?
Do people always listen when you tell a story? Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge? And would you like to help keep the story of the 1953 disaster and the fight against water alive?
As a guide, you lead visitors through the museum and tell them about the history of water in the Netherlands. As a museum host (inleider), you give a short introduction before visitors start their tour on their own.
Why volunteer with us?
- There’s always something to do. You are welcome every day of the week.
- You choose when you want to work. You also decide how many hours.
- With a volunteer contract, you are insured and know what to expect.
- You work in a friendly team with other volunteers and museum staff.
- You are welcome at events and lectures organized by the Watersnoodmuseum.
- Every year we organize a fun day out for all volunteers – including you!

About the museum
The Watersnoodmuseum wants to keep the memory of the 1953 flood disaster and other floods around the world alive, out of respect for the victims. The museum also helps people understand the risks of water and climate change, and invites them to think about solutions and possible actions. In this way, the museum works toward a safe and sustainable world, with fewer flood victims.
The museum mainly does this by telling stories – about the 1953 flood and other disasters – and by encouraging visitors to think about water, climate change, and rising sea levels. That’s how the Watersnoodmuseum has become the place in the Netherlands – and the world – where people of all ages can reflect on the dangers and the hope that water brings. A place where heart and mind come together.
