Education

The museum focuses increasingly on education. The publication in 2006 of the historical canon of the Netherlands, which includes the Flood of February 1st 1953 as one of its fifty defining personages and events, has boosted schools' interest in teaching programmes and projects.

The objectives of the Study Group on Education of the Watersnoodmuseum are as follows:
Developing educational programmes which contribute to:
- improving knowledge of the Flood
- improving knowledge about global warming (under study)
- realising a number of primary teaching's core objectives in the teaching programmes
- raising the profile of the Watersnoodmuseum in connection with this disaster
- creating greater interest in visiting the museum

Children in the 8 - 12 age group who do not visit the museum as part of a group are sent on an exploration with matching questions.
